The Future is in Very Good Hands

Six people around a table. Different backgrounds. Different careers. Different experiences. One thing in common. Every one of us cares deeply about the future of the young people at Laxey School. Last night was our final Governors' meeting of the school year. Yes, we worked through the statutory business. We reviewed performance, finance, risk and governance, making sure the school continues to be well-led, well-managed and accountable. But the conversations that stayed with me were about something much bigger. How do we prepare children for a world changing faster than ever before? How do we ensure every young person leaves with not only strong academic foundations, but also the confidence, resilience and curiosity to thrive throughout their lives? It was inspiring to hear about the progress being made across the school. An educational psychologist described our support provision as an "exceptional pathway", ensuring children receive the care and support they need to flourish. We heard that the school is ahead of the curve in implementing its writing curriculum, helping every child become a confident communicator. And we celebrated Laxey School achieving IQM Flagship Status, again, recognition not only for inclusion, but for being an outward-facing, forward-thinking school that continually seeks to learn, improve and share best practice. Perhaps the most exciting discussion was about the future. How do we continue developing a curriculum that grows not only knowledge, but the human qualities that matter most? - Resilience - Critical thinking - Problem solving - Creativity - Teamwork - Relationship building These are the capabilities that will help today's children navigate tomorrow's world with confidence. Schools don't achieve this because of one person. They achieve it because teachers, leaders, support staff, governors and parents all pull together with one shared purpose: helping every child discover and fulfil their potential. It's a privilege to play a small part in that journey. Thank you to everyone at Laxey School for everything you do. The future is in very good hands.
