Are You Using AI, or Handing Your Authority Over to It?

The quiet risk nobody is talking about

From where I sit, the biggest risk to senior leaders isn't AI replacing their skills. It's AI replacing their authority.

I watched the ending of The Capture recently and it felt uncomfortably possible. Because when systems consistently produce better answers, the room stops looking to the expert and starts looking to the output. Especially those who want certainty.

So leaders don't fail loudly. They fade quietly.

The accountability question

AI doesn't carry accountability. It doesn't hold principles. And it shouldn't make the final call.

That's our job.

The future of leadership isn't expertise. It's judgement.

Because the moment you stop exercising it, the room will stop looking to you for it. And once that authority is gone, it's very hard to get back.
